Today I:

* Got up early, stuck my nose briefly into the Friday Night Calontir Bardic, and determined that it was good.
* Popped out of the bardic and into my (now bi-weekly) Happy Hour meeting with my sisters for an hour or so
* Popped back into Calontir Bardic and stayed till Caroline arrived at 10:00
* Chatted briefly with Caroline before she went out to mow the lawn (asked her to please put the grass clippings by the strawberry patch for me.
* Ate breakfast with Julia, who had just gotten up
* Baked a yummy custardy cake
* Went outside and ate smultrons (wild strawberries), put the grass clippings into the strawberry patch around the berries
* ripped grass out from growing over the smultrons next to the raspberry patch, and out from around the raspberries
* Ate lunch
* Went with Julia to a small candy shop in Gammelstad that I didn't know existed to buy some candy that one can't get anywhere else for her friends in Åland.
* Waited outside the store with Julia till the previous customers finished making their selections and left.
* Got a video call from E just as we were about to walk into the store, so I showed E the store, promised to call back later, and hung up.
* Since we were there I bought one pack of the shop's burnt butter caramel, and one of their vanilla with sea salt caramel (which were what the owner recommended when I mentioned that I don't have a sweet tooth but love butter and cream). Tasted them on the way back to the car--both are very yummy, but sweet enough that one bite was enough--the rest are now in a glass jar awaiting the next time that I want a little "home made" candy.
* Went grocery shopping
* Stopped at the local farm supply store near the grocery store and bought a battery operated mosquito repelling thingie (D already has a couple that run on lighter fluid, and we went in to look for replacement fuel canisters, but then I saw this one, and decided that it was time to to have one one my own, and why not try one that is rechargeable?).
* Put away the perishable groceries and made dinner
* Took dinner to the computer and let E know I was home
* Talked with E, and wrote a letter to the Luleå Hembygdsgille and Norrbottens Spelmans Förbund asking if one or both organisation would be so kind as to invite her to do her "Professionalism" with them, as a volunteer doing dance cultural exchange or helping out with odd jobs at events, or whatever
* Did my yoga
* Put away the rest of the groceries
* Read the letter from a certain president explaining why his "great country" sent me a check this week
* re-potted the pomegranate plant I was given yesterday
* Saw the message from a friend asking if I had seen the photos of him he'd shared, so instead of heading to bed, returned to the computer to take a look and reply.
* Having done that, I posted here, too.

Now I think I will take a shower, go to bed, practice a bit of Duolingo Finnish and then Swedish, and get some sleep. Hopefully tomorrow will include some soapstone carving. I have that mosquito-repeller to test out, after all.
kareina: steatite vessel (2nd PhD)
Last night I was up late working on a job application, yet still managed to wake with enough energy to put in a very full day:

05:59 wake up
07:28 pause from getting ready to play the dulcimer for a few minutes
07:55 Arrive at work at the archive, work five hours
14:08 arrive at the lab and get an experiment running
17:25 start doing stuff for my Durham research project while the experiment runs
18:45 head downstairs to shut down the plasma and laser, only to discover that my card doesn't open the door to that corridor after hours. Call security and ask to be let in. He says he is in the middle of something he can't interrupt, and will call me as soon as he is available. Return to the office and join the Drachenwald Law Council meeting on line.
19:09 Call from security, ready to let me in, leave the meeting, head down and do all of the post-experiment tasks.
19:34 return to the office and the meeting in progress, continuing to work on Durham stuff while I listen, and then keep working on it afterwards, not starting to wrap things up till after my "do yoga" alarm goes off at 21:00.
21:09 Phone call from a friend, letting me know that he is finally feeling a bit better after being sick, during which call I get the computer shut down and start driving home.
21:339 take a bit of time to catch up on the Drachenwald Slack Channel and read DW. Thinking that I really should do that yoga and head to bed soon, because tomorrow I have to work both jobs again, and that job application needs more work.
kareina: (acroyoga)
* walked home ~60 meters, arriving at 22:10

* drove my colleagues home in their car (since I am a water-drinker, and they drink beer or wine), leaving at 22:05

* enjoyed the party to celebrate the Licentiae defence of one of our PhD students, met a few new interesting people, and actually interacted with some of my colleagues. Learned about the Taal Volcano in the Philippines, which is the Russian Doll of nested volcano craters filled with water, with smaller volcano in the middle, which has a water filled crater, which has an volcano in the middle. The biggest of the set is about three times as wide as Oregon's Crater Lake.

* arrived at the party only 2 minutes late, at 18:02

* forced myself to leave Phire training super early (17:58)

* had fun doing aerial silks and acroyoga with Ellinor and two new people

* arrived 14 minutes late to Phire training (at 17:14)

* finished work for the day at 17:10

* walked down stairs to check on the laser experiment in progress, get the data transferred to the uni server, and shut down the equipment for the weekend at 16:50

* went upstairs to my office to do 44 minutes worth of correspondence for my PhD project at 15:55

* returned to the lab to check on the last experiment and get the next one ready to run at 14:20

* made it to the "he passed the defence" cake and prezzie presentation at 14:00

* returned to the lab at 11:15 to restart the plasma so I could start the experiment running

* made it to my colleague's licentiate defence at 9:55 (he did a fabulous job!)

* got the experiment set up and ready to run, pressed go at 09:50, and, for reasons I don't understand, the machine decided to purge the sample chamber, and, in the process, blew out the plasma

* H. arrived at the lab just before 09:00 with her samples so we could start actually setting up the experiment

* arrived at work at 07:50, dropped my coat etc. at my office and went straight to the lab to start the plasma and get ready for today's experiment

* caught the bus at 07:33

* left the house at 07:29

* finished my morning situps at 06:40 and got up, dressed, and went to pack my lunch

* woke up at 06:28 and promptly started my morning situps

* went to bed at 01:06

* finished yesterday's yoga at 00:50

...speaking of which, it is already 0:35, so perhaps I should do today's yoga. Hope your day was also busy in fun ways :-)
