that might help
Mar. 4th, 2015 03:49 pmI have been using filters to sort my email for years now, but when I set them up I had it put all messages from facebook into a single folder. Years ago this made sense--I didn't get much in the way of stuff from them. These days so much happens there that the FB folder was full every day, even if the day before I had emptied it, and the things that are actually important were getting buried under the general chatter. Therefore I have just gone into gmail and deleted the old FB filter and replaced it with lots of specific filters, for example:
Matches: from:(facebookmail.com) "New message from" goes to "messages"
Matches: from:(facebookmail.com) "commented on your" goes to: "comments"
Matches: from:(facebookmail.com) "shared your" and Matches: from:(facebookmail.com) "mentioned you in" goes to "about me"
Matches: from:(facebookmail.com) "also commented on" goes to "chatter"
while every Matches: to:(groups.facebook.com) [name of group] goes to that groups own folder.
Now, when I am looking on my phone to see if there is anything important I should know about, I can go a specific folder (probably messages) and see if there is anything there, without looking at all of the other stuff, most of which isn't important. Then, when I am at a computer later and I have time/interest to actually follow the links in the others to see what people are talking about, I can, or I can "select all" and delete the lot at once, without worrying about accidentally taking out something important at the same time.
(No, actually, I don't have facebook on my phone, and don't want it there, so yes, I actually do look at the emails to see if I need to go to a computer and log in to reply to something)
