I took the day off
Dec. 30th, 2008 11:24 pmBad me, no biscuit.
I'd planned a trip into the city this morning with
clovis_t's mum and sister to finally buy me that top for my birthday (they didn't know what I'd like, so gave me a card on the day with cash in it and a note saying that it was for a nice top), so this morning I let that be an excuse to linger over e-mail/livejournal etc. I did take the time to read my 1000 words a day of geologic literature, but that was only because one of the authors to whom I'd sent a note asking for a better quality pdf of their paper than that provided me my my uni's interlibrary loan service replied. It was such a joy to be able to actually read the text and see the figures (which are crucial for that paper!) that I started reading it straight away. Might have finished it, but it was time to head out.
Accomplished several errands while in town--finally managed to deposit the check from the rental agency refunding the bond on our last house. It turned out to be easy, once I found a reasonable teller. The first one wouldn't take it because while I am an "authority" on the bank account that
clovis_t has had since childhood, it isn't a *joint* account, and the check was in both of our names. However, this teller let me write "please pay _insert full legal name of
clovis_t here__" and sign the back of the check, and then she was willing to put it into what we think of as "our" account. Managed to find a nice shirt, in a natural fibre, that was flattering, fit well, and was marked down to the amount of cash they'd given me (and then found that it was even further on sale, so I've got change too!). Stopped at the post office and picked up the package which was waiting for me--as I suspected it contained my new passport! That was fast. So now I'm a dual citizen with two passports. The rest of the family all had errands to do in town as well, so we didn't get home till about 2:30pm, at which point I took a nap.
After my nap
baronsnorri and my tall apprentice came over and we went for a walk. I *should* have settled into work after they left, but instead I fell into the book I got for Christmas (the Alton Gift--a new Darkover novel). The family went out this evening, and I took a reading break when they came in to say hello and do a few useful tasks, and then *should* have picked up my uni work, but instead decided to check e-mail livejournal etc. and suddenly it is 23:15. Sigh. I stayed home from Falls Festival because I have work to do. And, today, I did all of 20 minutes between my nap and my walk.
Therefore, I commit to all of you that tomorrow I shall actually do work. Before checking to see if anything "important" has come in via e-mail or livejournal. As soon as this posts, I'm taking the computer back to my room and setting it up, ready to work. Heck, I'm not *that* sleepy, perhaps I do my daily yoga and then see if I'm up for a night-time working session... So if there is anything *really* important that I should know about before I get to work tomorrow, you will have to call me, 'cause I'm not looking at e-mail again, even my uni account, till I've done either 500 words, or 5 hours work, whichever comes first.
