Ready for the elections

kareinaLast night was my training to work at the polling place on Sunday's election. I didn't know before I got this job that the ballot counting is a public event. When the polls close on Sunday we are to set up chairs for whomever wants to watch us do the counting before we sit down to count.
It is going to be a long day. I start at 07:30, get an hour off for lunch, and 2.5 hours off in the late afternoon/early evening. Then I work till polls close at 20:00, and keep working till we are do e counting. I asked my boss how long that usually takes, and she says that she hopes we will be done by midnight. I feel for her though, as when we are done counting she and her second in command need to drive the ballots to town, 40 minutes away, where a second count, and a first count of everything we put in the "questioned ballots" box will happen.
