One challenge in my current living situation is that D hasn't been very happy having his stuff and projects here but living with C at the apartment, since that means that if he wants to spend 15 minutes working on a project that he has to get ready to head out, travel the 4 km here, then work on the project, then head back, which often seems to be more of a bother than it is worth, which means that short increments of project progress often don't happen at all.

As a result, he has been wondering for more than a year what to do about the situation. I have said that they should just move back in here, but he doesn't think it is a good idea for the three of us to share such a small house as this one, especially given C's extra sensitive hearing and the fact that it isn't possible to have a conversation anywhere in the house where C can't hear it, which isn't a problem when C is wanting company, but if people drop by at a time when C is feeling like the perfect thing is peace and quiet to relax it...

Therefore two options that D might find appealing would be either I move out and they take the house, or they find some other property that has room for all of D's stuff and they move. This is complicated by the fact that I am not interested in moving, because I really, really love this property (and all of is berries). D is also really fond of this property, and besides, we haven't seen any properties listed for sale since buying this place that were even half as interesting as this one.

(Personally, I think the best solution would be if one of our closest neighbours were to sell us their house, and then D and C could have one house, and I the other, and we could share the land, and the forge could stay in its shed, and everything else right where it is. But none of our neighbours are interested in selling so far as we know, and even if they were, there is no guarantee that we could afford it)

Today I looked again at the local real-estate page, and this time saw a cute little cottage on the far side of town that is interesting enough to go take a look at, so I will go out on Friday, since it is worth a look, despite some serious down sides:

* the property is MUCH smaller than this one 1,687 m² vs 24,711 m²
* there is only one toilet (which is an incinerating toilet) (this house has two, that flush)
* no basement (we have one here)
* no garage/workshop (we also have one of these)
* no carport (and we also have one of these)
* well more than twice as far from the university (12 km by road, or 9 if the forest dirt path that google says is bikeable actually is, and if they plow it in the winter, as compared to 4 km to uni from this house, all via paved bike path that gets plowed promptly after every snow fall)

However, it has some pluses, too:

* apple trees and some berry bushes on property (but no where near the 3,000 m² of berries we have here, though, to be fair, we have no fruit trees)
* a greenhouse
* an upstairs, with a covered balcony
* stone walkway

The asking price is enough lower than what we paid for this one that I am willing to go take a look, and will go out on Friday. However, if any of the rest of you want to take a look, their web page has 360 degree photos (one in the kitchen, one upstairs, and one in the garden)

Much to my delight, one can also ask the page to send a text message with a link to a VR page for your phone, which lets one hold up one's phone and look through it to the house (or garden, depending on which point of view you choose), and then turn around and see the rest of the room. If you want to play with that feature you put your mobile phone number into the box under the text that says "Upplev bostaden genom virtuell verklighet på mobilen" and then hit the "skicka sms" button, and it will send you a text message with a link. Follow the link and then press the "virtual visning" button, and you can then press the VR goggles button to turn your phone into a VR tool.

are you thinking it would be an option for one or the other of you to potentially move to this smaller more distant home? or for you all to move there?

I am wondering if it would be a possible thing to build what is called here a "tiny house" on the land you currently have, and thereby have two separated dwellings without needing to purchase a neighors house? Is such a thing allowed where you live?

so I guess I am confused as to why you are going to look at it at all, given that it is not suitable for your needs either in part or all together? I am just clueless in these sorts of situations

Ah, that makes sense, I was just being nosy... I hope that in the end you figure out a solution that works well for everyone
