progress via deletion

kareinaI spent the morning working up the results of Tuesday's microprobe session, finishing one of the two samples analysed and thereby adding another 408 words and five figures/tables to the thesis. baronsnorri I returned to looking at the edits to chapter two that my advisor gave me some time back. I've only managed to work my way through part of them, but as a result my thesis is now 2419 words shorter than it was yesterday. This is, I hope, a good thing. I'd much rather have a shorter thesis that communicates clearly than a long, rambling one. The number of colour-coded highlights of things I'll need to do later are becoming overwhelming. There is no way I'll be able to say "I have nothing to do" for ages!
In other news, despite the frequent news stories about the "financial crisis" and how tough things are for those of you in the US, I see that the the Americian dollar, which had fallen to about the same value as the Americian dollar not too long ago has risen (or ours fell, or both) such that today one Australian dollar is worth only 0.6098 Us dollars. This means that if any of you want to come visit me, now would be a good time, because you can afford ever so much more here than you can at home. :-)
