I spent today at uni using the LaserICPMS to analyse zircons, monazites, and rutiles. This required using three different computers one to select the locations in the sample mount to analyse and turn on and off the laser, one to control and record the capture of the information when the laser is in operation, and one (my own) to record where on the sample each grain we analysed is located. After about 7 hours of this I begun to grab the wrong mouse when I needed to do the next step. Strangely, when you grab the wrong mouse and click it, it doesn't do what you expected it to do.
After a bit of a break spent reading a book and then going for a walk, I spent the entire evening completing my job application for that teaching position. I didn't realize just how long it would take to complete their on-line form and then e-mail all of the different attachments required. I suppose I could have attached more than one file per e-mail, but I don't like doing that...
Now that both of those tasks are out of the way, I can focus on the thesis once again. Tomorrow (which, technically, is in about 15 minutes, but I think I'll sleep first...)
