I have just curled up into bed, upon which there are freshly washed sheets, and it feels so delightful that I have picked up my phone to share.

Those of you who find the time to get your sheets washed every week, and/or have been at home most weekends lately may not truly understand just how nice this feels, since, in your world, this is normal...

Goodnight!

I have two sets of sheets for my bed so I can change them once a week, and still find that the first few hours in them is a sheer delight.

We have many sets of sheets that fit the bed , so we could change them without washing attaight away. However the time needed to re cover three doonas and six pillow cases and vacum up the dust bunnies and feathers that escape from my doona and pillows plus the fact that I don't care for the colours of the other choices and how much nicer they smell straight from the dryer rather than from the cupboard means it just doesn't happen as often as I would like.

The time when fresh sheets are the best is when I've been able to line dry them outdoors... they have the most wonderful indescribable scent...

If it is also a windy day, so that they are as soft as if they came from the dryer, then outside is better. Either way straight from the line or the dryer onto the bed smells so much better than those which have been in the cupboard for a while.

Totally off topic, but have you ever considered writing for Tournaments Illuminated in the SCA? I coordinate the Medieval Destinations Page, which is one page with at least three photos (one large one that can be blown up and at least two smaller ones) and 300-350 words of writing on an SCA period site that would be of interest to SCA folks -- but most SCA members, particularly Americans -- don't know about

We've only had one page on Sweden, and that was on Visby. You're much further north, but I'm betting there are cool sites up your way.

What do you think? We can't pay you, but you will get a free copy of your issue. :)

I have thought about it--our local church in "Gammelstad" (old town) was built in the 1300's, and the surrounding church village, from the early 1800's is a World Heritage site that includes an open-air museum of Swedish farm houses and out buildings, again mostly from the 1800's, so post our period, but nonetheless interesting. On many years we have hosted a major SCA demo/event at that museum in the summer that is open to the public during the day and an SCA event in the evenings. We didn't do it last year because the organizers needed a break, but we are currently considering if we will run it next year. If we do, it would make sense to do a TI article that talked about Gammelstad, and mentioned the event as well.

I have lost track of when TI comes out--I kept getting it for some years after they unbundled it, but after moving to Sweden it was bothersome to do the separate order from paying my membership, and my subscription elapsed and I have never remembered to renew it. That event usually happens in July, if we were to mention it in such an article, which issue would be appropriate, and what deadline applies for that issue?

Deadlines are

7 November for first quarter of year (early January)
7 February for second quarter
7 May for third quarter
7 August for fourth quarter

If the event's in July, perhaps for the second quarter to publicize it?

Ok, now I have a short draft of the text and some photos from our Seneshal and a link to the press photos for the area, too. Where shall I send them? We are thinking that going for the earlier issue makes more sense, as no one from far away will make it to the Medieval days if they only read about it just before it happens...

To me! :) silme13 at yahoo dot com

We could only run the press photos if we can get releases for them, though. We'll need releases for the photos from the seneschal.

I just found the time to look up the TI submissions guidelines. They want HARD COPY????? Really???? Bothering with the various release forms is off-putting enough, but to actually need to print to paper, carry it to a post office, and pay for postage makes the whole thing just sound terribly unappealing. I don't need to send hard copy when submitting articles to science journals. I also don't see how hard copy will help anyone--it isn't like they are going to re-type the text.

No, no -- don't worry about hard copies of anything. That's all ancient history and probably should be updated. Just email things to me.

In fact, you should even be able to use an electronic signature for release forms. Some people still print them out, sign them with ink, scan them and email them in, but some folks, including me, just use an electronic signature.

I have been writing for TI for over a decade and have never submitted any hard copies. I'll ask Riordan (the overall TI editor) to make changes. I have a feeling he's just swamped and updating the website has been low priority.

Compleat Anachronist is edited 100% on-line; it's the only way that we can do it. I'm here in England, the art director is in Wisconsin and the publisher is in southern California. If it weren't for the internet, it wouldn't work. (The editor prior to me was in New Jersey, so she wasn't particularly close to Wisconsin nor California, albeit she was closer than I.)

The only hard copies are the final publications of TI and CA. You'll get a PDF proof to go over via email. Trust me when I say that nobody has ever sent me any hard copies of anything for the Medieval Destinations page of TI!

Oh, I might that TI also is 100% edited on-line. Riordan, the overall editor, is in Los Angeles. His art director is in rural Nevada. The publisher is in Utah. Riordan has various sub-editors, including me, all over the world. We do everything electronically.

One more PS

The only thing I ask (and Riordan also) is that you don't embed photos in Word. Send the text as a Word or Open Office or whatever document. However, please send the photos as individual jpgs, gifs, tiffs etc. The highest resolution you have is the best. The photo may wind up being tiny and b/w, but Riordan may want to use it on the cover (in colour), particularly if it's a particularly cool building/shot and doesn't have any people in the shot. (TI doesn't use people in cover shots. I think it's to deal with the fact that the editor's friends possibly could wind up there a lot.) For example, I've had two cover photos -- one of the Cowdray Ruins in West Sussex and another of Tretower Court in Wales. Both were submitted to accompany their Medieval Destination pages. The current TI has a photo of Raglan Castle with ID and Drachenwald banners flying. It was submitted with an article on FFair Raglen and Riordan really liked it.
