In my heart's imagination

I don't normally do creative writing--I am usually content to simply record day factual to day stuff here in my journal, even if I occasionally make the effort to present it in an interesting or amusing manner. However, this morning a dear friend I haven't seen in far too long posted a paragraph in which she described her depression as an ill-fitting, heavy coat, and I thought to leave her a comment about wishing I could replace that coat with a light, airy cloak. However, in the time it took to finish my situps, put down the phone, where I had been reading LJ, and walk to the computer so that I could better type the comment I got inspired, and wrote her a poem instead. After posting it in the comments to her post I sent a copy off to friends in the Mists Bardic College, since they enjoy taking poems and songs and making them better. Much to my surprise, the first two emails I have gotten back on it didn't include any suggestions for improvement, but only complimented me on it.
It occurs to me that some people who read this won't have seen the post in which this appeared, so I am repeating it here, since, if you read my journal at all you like to read, and, perhaps, you like to read creative writing, too.

In my heart's imagination
In my heart's imagination we walk, you and I, along a stony river channel
In my heart's imagination we discover flakes of slate
billions of years old, worn smooth by water and the tumble of time
and chips of ivory, ancient as the sea, remnants of powerful creatures long gone
a token of their former glory.
In my heart's imagination we take our finds, you and I, and make them square
In my heart's imagination we pierce them once for curiosity
once for friendship, once for adventure, and once for ingenuity
now tablets for weaving we string them with the finest gossamer threads
still wet with the morning dew.
In my heart's imagination we weave, you and I, with tablets ancient and new
In my heart's imagination the band's weft weaves knots and leaves
and spreads out across the world to form warp anchored upon love
and strength and wisdom and glory, shimmering threads
ready to take the foundation.
In my heart's imagination we tie off, you and I, the life-wide band
In my heart's imagination we craft, you and I, upon an upright loom
the band of gossamer life knots now form warp while starlight,
moonlight, and fairy's song weft their way across in joyous dance
a square of cloak in the making.
In my heart's imagination we lift, you and I, the cloak from loom
In my heart's imagination we gently pry, you and I, the ill-fitting coat
from your shoulders and let it drift, forgotten on the waves
while cloak of love and shaed of warmth cradles your shoulders
a touch so light and free.
