But it has been much too long since I have found time to post something here, so I thought I would try taking the tablet to bed and typing here. I hereby blame any typoes on the combination of the interface and the lack of a watchful spellchecker on duty.

Some highlights since my last post:

today

While doing yoga this evening I looked out my window on time to see a deer wandering throug my yard. Not just on the lower field, he walked up the slope next to The tree and then rigt past the side of the house. I love living here.

I worked over ten hours today, this despite taking over an hour off this afternoon to pedal into town and pick up my new Swedish ID card. While there I spoke to the lady about changing the spelling of my name, and she assured me that it will be fine to turn in the form for that now, and if I haven't got the letter back fro them saying that they have processed the change by the time I take my driver's licence test next month it will be possible to wait and not get the licence printed till after the change is official.

I love living in Sweden--when I had my name changed in the US (added a first name before the middle name I had had since birth (ok, so at the time mom filled out the paperwork she thougt it was my first name, and I had no middle name;she was mistaken) it was necesary to pay a filing fee, to publish the impending change in a newspaper for three weeks in a row (and pay a few for that), then meet with a judge and convince the court that I was not attempting to hide from the law or any creditors via the change before it could happen. Here it took less than twenty minutes from going to lock up my trike before getting the ID and turning in (and filling out) the single page form to unlocking it again and pedaling off. There wasn't even a fee for it. In a few weeks they will send me a letter leting me know the change has been entered into the system, then I can pay the fee for a new ID card. However, since I am planning on getting a local driver's licence anyway, I was going to have to pay that one anyway.

Baked Swedish-stle oven pancakes tonigt. It was much too late when they came out of the oven to eat any tonigt, but they will be good for lunch tomorrow, and very good to take with me on Friday when I head to the mine for a meeting (preparing for that is why I didn't get home from work today till after 21:00)

yesterday

Went out to the last nyckleharpa class of the season. I played along, sort of, to the 2.5 songs I know, but then happily spent the rest of the evening working on my nålbindining while the others played. The others have all gotten good enough that they preformed as a group at the National Day celebration last week. I was in Finland at the time, but wouldn't have tried preforming with them anyway. I am not in the least bothered by the difference in skill level between me and the others--starting from zero I have learned the notes for several songs, and can play them in sequence and in rcognizible rythym, if very slowly. That is quite enough leisure time accomplishment for a busy period of my life. And the relaxing at the lesson meant that I managed to have enough energy left when we got home to spend an hour stacking wood. Now that portion of the huge wood pile that stuck out from under the tarp has been stacked neatly in the shed. The rest will follow at first oppertunity.

this weekend

Saturday morning and early afternoon we took it easy and rested. Then, around 16:00 I went to work and he took the tractor and huge trailer south to pick up more stuff from his dad!s place. I stayed at the office till nearly midnight and accomplished a fair bit, and eventually got to bed a bit before 03:00. He had to drive tractor speeds, and had lots to load, so he didn't get home till around 07:30, but he brought home a huge load of large rocks, small square stones for landscaping, a stack of old boards to repair the shed walls, and a bunch of logs suitable to make the roof of the root celler we will be putting in this summer.many tons of loot, and all it cost us was his time and and the petrol to fetch it.

Sunday late morning I made time to update our financial records (slept till then), Sunday afternoon we both worked on organizing the shed to make room for the new wood and unloading the loot. Sunday evening was folk dancing--our last rehershal before the performance this coming weekend.

last week

Was a travel week. I flew to Stockholm Monday morning, leaving at 06:00, which meant getting up at 04:30. Made it to the class I was taking in very good time, spent the day talking notes (typing on the computer) and stitching on my nålbindining, and then went back to the apartment of my Stockholm friend I stayed with last time I was down there (and who stayed with me whenshe was last up here). There were three of us from LTU at the course, and we all stayed at the same place. He (who had been in town all weekend) opted to go meet our host for billards that evening, but she and I were both tired from our early morning flight and went to slep early (19:30!!).

That caught me up enough on slep that I had the energy for a walk before class in the morning, and after class we all joined our host and her boyfriend for dinner at an Aferican resturant and did some Stockholm sigtseeing afterwards, since one of had never been to Stockholm before. (I, of course, didn't eat anything at the resturant, since it was much too late for food, but it smelled lovely).

Wednesday was a half day of class, thenwe went to catch the overnigt ferry to Helsinki, where the final two days of classes were held.

Thursday after class I ate too much justuuo (cheese--the wonderful flat squeaky stuff one can get at a small corner grocery store in Finland, but in Sweden it is only available at fairs and outdoor markets, if you are lucky) for dinner, and then took advantage of really good hotel internet to have a long video call with loved ones (first time we had really had a chance to visit all week) and stayed up too late doing it.

Friday was the last day of the course. The two other LTU students left before class ended to go to the airport and fly from Helsinki to Stockholm, change planes, then fly home. I opted not to go that route. Instead I stayed to the end of class, met a friend for sight seeing and dinner in a Thai resturant (and early enough for me to eat, too! Thoug we take home leftovers for her son, who was working that evening). She then dropped me off at the airport and I flew in a 100-seater plane to the Kemi/Tornio airport, which is deligtfully cute and tiny airport, and then [livejournal.com profile] lord_kjar picked me up and drove me the two hours home. While the others got home earlier than I did, I spent about a half hour less in transit.

I have no idea if that catches me up to where I last left off, but it is late, and past time to sleep, so I will close this here and wish you all well.
