Last Friday, on my way home from a week in Boliden I stopped by the fabric store and picked up the fabric we had ordered the week before. Saturday morning [profile] lord_kjar had a planning meeting for the local medieval week, and I went along, since it was held more than a third of the way to his dad's house. After the meeting we went to his dad's house, and took advantage of the huge amounts of floor space they have to cut out the fabric for the sunshade and start sewing it. We also picked up the steel scrap his dad had on hand that is the correct size for assembling the pole segments.

We quit sewing for the day when we ran out of thread. Having done the sewing for my pavilion on my own and now done the sunshade as a two person job I can tell you with confidence that it is *much* better to do it as a two-person job. Not only is it more fun with company, but no one's shoulder gets messed up and the seams are much straighter when there is someone helping to guide the fabric.

We weren't able to resume sewing on Sunday until after the fabric store opened at noon, so we spent the morning doing laundry and getting started with painting those steel bits. I also managed to bake some bread and make some ice cream (it is good to be home and have my own kitchen again).

Given the late start to the sewing on Sunday we were pleased to have finished most of it before bed time, and we managed to do the last of it plus settings the grommets tonight before yoga and dulcimer playing time.

Tomorrow is choir, so the earliest we can do the poles is Wednesday. Two weeks till I fly to Cyprus, not much longer before the bus departs to Double Wars. It still looks possible to accomplish everything that needs to happen before then.

Well, back on 6 March I included a clickable link to the event's web page: http://www.doublewars.org/dwxxv/ and said that last year we took 19 hours to do the road trip.

on 9 March I described the location as "southern Sweden", so I guess that is why I haven't made more specific mention of the location. The closest town is called "Tyringe", and it is so far south that they recommend that people who want to fly to the event fly to Copenhagen and take the train over to the Hassleholm station (a slightly larger town also not far away), rather than flying to Stockholm.
