We have been warned that for tomorrow's Swedish exam we will need to write a paragraph about ourselves, describing a typical day in our lives, using standard phrases denoting time of day, and varying our language. This evening I composed the following paragraph, and got [livejournal.com profile] archinonlive to check it for me and point out the obvious problems with it.

Which means, roughly: "In the morning the clock rings at half-past six (note that they describe that time of day as half-to seven), but I do not rise up directly. First I do sit-ups--physical activity is good! At 7:00 I eat breakfast and read e-mail. After breakfast I do geology research for two hours. Afterwards I walk to university, I have Swedish lesson between 10:15 and 11:45.

After school, at 12:30, I meet my boyfriend, David, and we eat lunch at home: vegetable soup with bread and cheese. Efter lunch I research geology and read e-mail once again.

We eat dinner at 17:30. After dinner we have a folk dance class between 19:15 and 20:45. Afterwards I read to David from a Swedish children's book. At night we go to bed at 10:45."

Now I'd best do my yoga and get to sleep--it is considerably later than the above stated bedtime from an ideal day--filling in the application for an extended visitor's visa took longer than I anticipated (such things always do).

I did a 3 week Finnish summer course back in '98 and we had to write daily journal entries in Finnish, which was really helpful.

Children book are good, I like to think that Steph picks up some French from Emily's :)

I bet she does--the are meant to be read over and over, they use a good mix of common, every day words and fantastic words, and they often use slight repetition with small grammar changes to help drill those patterns into us...
