Friday and Saturday were largely spent continuing to work on the mass balance calculations. Only six more to do. I've somehow made the switch to night shift. I had been on day shift in preparation for a job interview, and enjoyed waking up every morning. However, after returning to Milan and not having a reason to get up early, my body has drifted later and later each day. Last night I went to bed at 06:00 this morning! I also like night shift--it feels like I get more done, because I'm not bothered with interruptions where I need to get food. For reasons I don't really understand, my tendency to have no interest in food in the evenings or at night is still there even on days, like Saturday, when I didn't wake up until 14:00. On those days I just eat a bit more frequently between waking up and quitting eating for the day (at 18:30 on Saturday), and then don't get hungry again, even though I stayed up another 11.5 hours after I was done. Kinda weird, but it has its advantages.

This morning I started the day by doing a load of laundry, and while it was washing cooked up some pumpkin risotto with spinach and pumpkin seeds. Yum! Instead of working on the mass balance calculations today's "uni work" was preparing and submitting three job applications which were due today and tomorrow. I now have a a whole week before the next one is due, and another five due the week thereafter. (Mom, don't bother asking about where they jobs all are, unless you want me to send you the entire spreadsheet--there are too many to keep track without one. But since I have no way of knowing which ones will yield a job offer, I am applying for everything that sounds like it would be fun to do.)

Thanks to the internet and reading my friends posts to LJ and Facebook I realized that it was Halloween today. I wouldn't have noticed if they hadn't mentioned it--one day in the office looks much like another. But that is an important day, so I decided that even though I had no plans to do things with anyone I know, I may as well do something. So I went home, changed into my good thick long wool tunic & a pair wool tights. Added a belt and my thick liruepipe hood and went on a pilgrimage in the rain; I did the walk from home to the city center, around the Duomo, and back home again. This took from 19:37 to 21:18. As is usual in Milan the city center was quite crowded--I was surprised to see that the shops in the center were still open that late, on a Sunday evening. I don't know if that is typical for those shops on a Sunday evening, but I've seen them open that late on a Friday and Saturday before. I, of course, didn't stop in any of them, just got my exercise and admired the beauty of the cathedral. Only a very tiny percentage of the crowd were in costume tonight, and most of them were children, but it was nice to see that some people were.

When I got home I curled up with a book for a while, did some sewing, did my yoga and was about to get ready for bed (I did my 1000 earlier in the day), when I remembered that my old sca.org address ceases to exist as of 31 October. Since it was still 31 Oct. in the states, I decided to come in and check that address, on the off chance that something important had come in from some source which didn't get the news about that addresses impending demise. There was naught but spam, but since I'm here I took the time to read other e-mail anyway. So much for getting to sleep early, but, it is still earlier than yesterday...
