slow progress continues

I continued today working on chapter three, gathering together figures from various places on my computer and creating pdfs with all figures which belong on a single page on a single page, doing edits of the thesis as I work my way through, and updating the spreadsheet listing all of the figures, upon which page they are first mentioned, and upon what page they will be printed. Made some good progress, but there is still a fair bit to do. Had a very frustrated half an hour though--went to do the next figure, went to the folder in which the file was meant to be, and it wasn't there. (In my list of figures in the thesis itself I also type the name of the file, complete with all folders and sub folders necessary to find the file--this is because the various figures are located in such a variety of places on the computer, depending on the type of data and file involved.) There were other, older files in that folder, but the one I needed wasn't there. I tried checking nearby folders. I tried searching for the file name. I tried my removable hard drive. Nothing. Nowhere. So I eventually gave up and told the computer to start those calculations needed to create the figure again, and went to set up the CorelDraw file into which I'd import the results once it was done. Decided to give the new file the same name as the missing file, but, lo and behold, when I tried to save the new file, I received an error message stating that the file exists, and did I wish to replace it. No, no I did not wish to replace it. Instead I went back to the folder and looked, and there it was, right where it was meant to be. So I cancelled the calculations, opened the file and extracted what I needed from it. I'm ever so grateful I didn't have to do it all over again, but more than a bit annoyed that it first vanished and then reappeared. I also wonder if it was really missing during that time, or if it is just operator error, though I suppose I can forgive it for hiding, since it came back on time.

In other news I went for a trike ride around the block today. Yes, my life is really that exciting at the moment. Uni work has progressed, I read my 1000 words of geologic literature earlier--there is nothing left to do before sleep but yoga and teeth-brushing...

this works out to roughly one figure ever 220 words, so far...
