The week I permitted myself for doing extra calculations having past, I've returned to writing, and started the chapter of "other locations", for the few samples from random other spots around Tassie that have garnet-bearing schists that I worked on. Typing up the results for the one sample in the Forth area gave me 412 new words and five new figures. It also gave me an excuse to play with the over-lay an image ability in GoogleEarth. Talk about a wonderful tool! I was able to open the ArcMap file with all of my sample locations, add in the layers showing the coast lines, rivers, and roads, export it as a jpg and overlay that image in GoogleEarth, grabbing the corners and moving it till it aligned with the coastline, rivers, and roads one can see from the satellite image. This lets me see *exactly* where the sample comes from (which, since it is one of the many I obtained from the collection in storage at the Uni rather than collecting in the field myself, is a good thing). I now have a lovely CorelDraw file showing the satellite image, the location of the samples from that area, and marks showing the longitude and latitude. I still need to add in the geology of the region, but I don't have that data at home, so it can wait for another day.

It was a blustery sort of spring day today, with on again and off again rain showers of varying intensity, but last night was beautiful! [livejournal.com profile] clovis_t and I went for a walk quite late, after I'd turned off the computer for the evening, and the full moon meant we were able to head out on the fire trail and enjoy the view of the mountain.
