level of detail needed in one's records
Jun. 24th, 2008 12:02 pmWhen I started this PhD project I was aware that it would be a Good Idea (TM) to keep records of what I am doing and what I think that I need to do yet on a daily basis, and right from the beginning I made an effort to do so. However, it amazes me just how much *more* detail I am finding out I need to record than I thought I would need at the beginning of the project!
(e.g. It isn't good enough to record that I downloaded paper _X_ to read later (or requested it via document delivery), it is also necessary to record *why* I downloaded it. Was it referenced in another paper and I want to know what they say about this tiny side-point? Sometimes it is still obvious when I finally sit down with the paper, sometimes it isn't!)
