Cleaning Frenzy!

I just took advantage of the fact that half of our house mates are away for a week for Rowany Festival and gave the refrigerator and freezer a good scrubbing. Yay for clean and organized! My goodness, there are ever so many things in the freezer that I have no idea where they came from. Therefore I have typed up an inventory of everything in there, listed the owner (when I knew), its status (ie available for anyone to eat, or to be saved for the owner's meals), what it is (sometimes I had to guess), what sort of container it is in, and which shelf it is now located. That list has been printed and taped to the freezer, with a pen-on-a-string hanging conveniently near by, and plenty of blank rows for new items to be added later. I've e-mailed everyone in the house (there are only four of us, but at times it seems like ever so many more!) asking them to please cross off the list anything they take out of the freezer, and to add details for anything they add (and to fill in the blanks for the items I couldn't identify). It is my hope that this will encourage people to actually eat what is in there!

Doing all of this scrubbing and organizing felt just like "spring cleaning", and indeed, it is a lovely day outside, all sunny and pleasant, with green grass, and some flowers. But the calender insists that it is autumn in Australia and that "winter" is on the way....

I guess this means I'd best use what is left of my energy this morning to make more progress on that thesis, since it is meant to be done by mid-winter (local time).
