I commented today in the status bar of Facebook that I'd just taken yummy oatmeal current cookies out of the oven, and one of my friends promptly asked for the recipe. Fortunately, I could still remember what I'd done, so I typed it up.

Oatmeal Current Cookies

Put 2/3 cup of currents into a cup, and cover (just till the liquid shows at the top layer of currents) with a blend of 1/2 apple juice, 1/2 lemongrass tea, put into the microwave on full power for thirty seconds, then let stand till cool.

In one bowl mix:

3 c oats
1 c flour
1 t salt
1/2 t backing soda
A dash of cinnamon

In another bowl mix till light and fluffy:

7/8 c soft butter
1/2 cup light brown sugar
3/4 c raw sugar
1 egg

Add the cooled juice/currents to the butter mixture, and fold in the oat mixture. If too sticky, add a small amount more flour. Roll into 2 – 3 cm balls, place on greased paper, bake at about 180 C for 7 to 10 minutes till they are only barely golden brown. Cool on a wire rack.

Note: I used the juice/tea blend because that is what I put on my muesli in the mornings for breakfast, so I had it on hand. You could use all juice, for a sweeter result, or all tea, for a less sweet result, if you wanted.

Why am I baking cookies? Because that is the bribe I've offered the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] glass_violet to bring my pavilion poles to 12th Night for me, since it isn't possible to carry both a passenger and the poles in our car. I get to camp in my pavilion this coming weekend! Yay!

And I've already done three hours of uni work this morning, before baking. I woke up much earlier than expected thinking of yttrium concentrations in monazite and garnet, and had to look up some things, and then decided that I need to book more microprobe time. Yah, I'm meant to be done, but this could be important, and I really want to know if the garnet with the huge clump of high-Y monazite in the core is different composition from the other garnets with single, isolated, low-Y monazite in their core.
