I much prefer to compose my own words. However, I have lost loved ones to cancer, including my father and step father, both of whom have death certificates which read "pneumonia", but neither of whom would have contracted that had they not been in the hospital being treated for cancer. Yes, I would love to see a cure. However, I fail to see how saying so on LiveJournal and Facebook will help.

Point taken. I don't think that near enough attention is paid to pneumonia and its causes. We lose thousands of people each year due to pneumonia as a complication from other illnesses and while cancer is something we are still struggling to beat back, there is a pneumonia shot available. Unfortunately, most people don't know about the shot until it is too late. Posting THAT information on FB or LJ would be helpful. Sorry for your loses.

Thank you! While cancer is indeed a serious medical concern and needs to be studied hard there are many more insidious diseases that cause even higher numbers of fatalities. High blood pressure and diabetes are the two leading causes of death in the US, primarily as triggers for other diseases or conditions.

While I support medical research there seems to be a serious case of tunnel vision going on out there.
