Shelves!

At long last I have obtained shelves for The Closet. IKEA delivered them this morning; less than four hours later I had them all assembled. Well, all but one last shelf. All of the others came with four little pegs upon which they rest wrapped in plastic and taped into a grove in the shelf. That one did not. I'm told that IKEA will probably replace the missing pegs, but I'm not looking forward to the several hours it will take to get public transit back out there, just to pick up one small handful of pegs. I may well check the local hardware store and see if they have something about the right size--if it costs less than the cost of public transit to IKEA it will be worth it to just buy them here. Heck, if they've got something close but a little bit too big, I could take it to the lab and use the lathe to make it the correct size...

I am much happier now that I've got the space available to organize my books and stuff when it arrives. Two more weeks! I can't wait. Why it takes so long to get here via truck from the UK, I don't know, but I am so looking forward to having stuff again! Kitchen toys! Garb! amrour, books! fabric! blankets and pillows and towels! games! Have I mentioned that it is only two more weeks?

My second experiment is running. I should have spent time this weekend getting the third one ready to go, but I didn't, and while they day is young, I'm tired, which is not the best time to weld tiny gold capsules, so I'll have to do it tomorrow morning. Afternoon won't work, I've got Italian class then... However, tomorrow morning I also need to polish the first experiment, as the epoxy we put it into will have cured by then, and once that happens we can take it to the microprobe and see the results.

Couldn't IKEA just mail the pegs to you? Seems like they really should, since it was their fault.

Possibly. When I tried calling yesterday I couldn't understand the complicated Italian the computer spoke well enough navigate buttons to get to a human, so I don't know if the human would have spoken English, if I had reached one.

I think IKEA will mail you that sort if small item... It's worth trying at least.

I did try calling. Couldn't understand the computer's Italian well enough to find the combinations of buttons to get a human on the line.

My Italian wasn't good enough to find a button for that. But I'm happy with plan A "check the local store". Time enough to deal with language barriers if that fails.

Ikea has in fact, mailed me pieces that were missing from a box. However it required calling them to make that happen, and you may have to do that in Italian. How are your language skills coming?

Alas, the three Italian lessons I've had so far aren't enough to understand the computer at their call center, so I failed to find the buttons needed to get a human. No idea what the odds would have been on reaching one who spoke English...

I would suggest either calling them or getting someone who speaks fluent italian to call or emailing them and they will probably send them to you since IKEA is pretty big on customer service failing that I have 4 extra I can mail you if you really need them and you can't get them because we have tons here.

I thought of having someone who speaks Italian call them (after failing to get the computer to give me a human), but the only person I know in that catagory who was on-line yesterday, when told of my plight, commented that he would bet that they wouldn't send them by mail, and didn't volunteer to call (probably didn't really understand my request, his English is adequate, but not fantastic). I might try having one of my co-workers call later, but it might be faster to just walk to the hardware store down the street.
