I think I'm going to really enjoy living on my own. Yes, it was nice to have a houseguest for almost three weeks--[livejournal.com profile] clovis_tand I get along very well. We may have decided that we'd rather be friends than life-partners, but we've also got many years worth of practice getting along whilst living in the same house, so it was very easy and comfortable to have him here. However, as often happens when he and I are sharing a space, I let myself relax and take it easy on the self-improvement front. During the time he was here I continued to do my daily yoga (he joined me in that each day), but it was usually only for the “minimum” time (23 minutes a day, this year). Sure, we got in plenty of walking, but that was only in the course of sight-seeing or running errands. Yesterday morning I walked him to the train station, more as an excuse to get some exercise than because he needed the company. This gave me more than an hour’s walk round-trip to start my day. I then went to the bank to pay my rent (it is such a good thing I’d brought my sewing—one can get a fair bit of stitching done while standing in line for 40 minutes!) and celebrated an empty house by doing a bit of cleaning.

After that I went in to uni, but as has often happened lately, I spent my time there doing stuff with the internet rather than working. Eventually, I decided I was hungry again (I’d long since eaten the food I’d brought with me), so came home to make a bit more food (a quick flat-bread involving 1/2 a cup of flour, the last of this week’s ricotta from the market (~1 or 2 tablespoons), a dash of baking powder, and just enough yoghurt to hold it all together Yum!). Then I finally settled into doing uni work. Yay! Uni work! I now have a nearly complete draft of my poster for the conference at the end of the month. It needs only a couple of pretty photos of my samples, but it was necessary to wait to choose them till the next time at uni since I want to pick one showing the presence of the young monazite in the garnet rims, and the older grains in the garnet cores, and I need to be able to open ArcMap to be able to see the locations of the monazite in the various samples, and the licence for that program is located in the UTAS geology department, so I can only open the program when I’m not only on-line, but connected to their network.

After reaching a breaking point with that project I was inspired, so I went out for a short run--my first since arriving in Milan. Perhaps I’m becoming accustomed to the heat that I could contemplate such a thing, but, more likely, it has to do with the fact that I’m on my own again, so am once again focusing a fair bit of energy towards taking care of *me*. After the run I did not 23 minutes of yoga, but 35, and was pleased to be able to get further into a number of poses than I have been these past few week--it was easy to put my head onto my legs in the seated forward bend, not just with a single leg forward, but with both legs extended. I also managed to hold a number of balance poses for longer than has been typical. And then I followed it up with my first bit of meditation since arriving in Milan. Only four minutes of that though--then the mosquitoes started biting, and I decided that it was shower time—they tend to leave me alone when I’m not sweaty.

I finished up my evening by reading my 1000 words of geological literature (another thing that was not done consistently while I had a house-guest). This morning I started my day with the 1000 and did some laundry and baking of bread before finally coming in to check mail and do that ArcMap stuff (next!).
