I told my friend the reactions people got to the thought of putting the 200 year old linen on his shield, and he replied "I got plenty of that and can buy any more. I can send it anywhere if needed, I might send it in exchange for something else, in pure middle age trade." Let me know if you want me to pass on your contact details to him...

I just gave a bunch of SCA gear, including my shield, to a pair of neighborhood children as I packed for a move. I had not used the items in years and I have to say that it pleased me to see what glee that had at receiving the items.

I saw only the white; I don't know if he has any in colour. Remember that linen is traditionally white--it doesn't take dye very well (particularly before the invention of modern chemical dyes), but it does bleach beautifully...

I only got a quick look at it, the stuff I saw was reasonably thick/sturdy (as you would expect if he wants to cover shields with it). I have no idea if he's got more than one type. Would you like me to pass him your e-mail address so you can ask?
