At one point I'd hoped to be done enough before this weekend to actually attend the local Baronial Investiture event. [livejournal.com profile] baronsnorri and his Baroness are stepping down, and a new couple are stepping up. It would have been nice to be there (if for no other reason to support [livejournal.com profile] baronsnorri at the end of his time as Baron of Ynys Fawr--he's been one of my closest friends since moving to Tassie, but I've not made time for him at all the past few months as I've been focusing on "finishing" the thesis and neglecting everyone and everything else in my life. However, while I've progressed through the parts of chapter six which summarize all of my results and how they relate to the previously published Tasmanian work, I still need to write the important part of the chapter--the "so what" section. The part wherin I need to both remain cautious with plenty of qualifying statements (lest my examiner not like the ideas presented here) *and* show my understanding of the state of knowldge in the field by drawing connections between what my data says and what people have found elsewhere and what it all means. Going to Invest will not help this goal. I did take a little bit of time off this evening to go to the site, where they were doing hall set up and social time. [livejournal.com profile] clovis_t, who has his own reasons for not attending tomorrow, decided that he wanted to go out for an hour or two tonight, so I got the ride into town, and was glad I did--one of my friends from up at Cradle Mountain was down for the event, so I got to see her. I would love to make one last road trip up to her house before leaving the state to see how much work she's done on it in the year+ since last I was there, but it doesn't look like it is going to happen. I also made myself useful unpacking the boxes of candelabras and getting them reassembled before heading back here to do more work.

Tomorrow I stay home and work, whilst pretty much everyone I know heads out to do play time stuff. Fortunately, I am still able to find enjoyment in the work, but, I wouldn't mind if it were done already...

I've missed a few birthdays recently, and feel bad about it, but I have to pass on good wishes to [livejournal.com profile] leohtulf, [livejournal.com profile] duchessletitia, and [livejournal.com profile] sirrustam, who all, in addition to being delightful people, share a natal day. May you each find much joy on the anniversary of your birth (17th, but if I don't speak now, I'll not remember it), and may the next year of your lives be among the best you've ever experienced.

I remember what it was like, holing up with my research and writing when everyone else was out playing - it's hard to stay focused, but with so much of your future happiness riding on getting this thing DONE on time, I'm sure you've got the motivation, even when it's tugging at you that you'd like to go play. *LOL*

You're doing great, you're going to finish, and it'll all pay off handsomely in the end. And then, you'll have time for fun - and be living in ITALY!
