I don't even know how to say hello. I took Latin once, but that isn't as helpful as I would like, I bet... Any help would be appreciated! I need to at least learn basic greetings and other polite phrases, even if the people with whom I've been corresponding thus far all have excellent English.
I'll burn some discs and send them down to you. And I have a spare Italian dictionary you can have, as it's just taking up space on my shelf (I have THREE! madness.)
Well, assuming that everything goes ahead and there are no major snags, they want me there by the end of June, to officially start on 1 July. I'm hoping to submit the thesis by the end of May, and it would be grand to do a bit of travel in the US on my way there in the first part of June...
I've actually be there, though I will admit it was 20 years ago now. I spent a summer with a friend in Northern Italy long ago, and have always wanted to go back. It's lovely, and the people are some of the nicest I've ever met in the world. You will enjoy it enormously. Congratulations m'dear.
Excellent! And seconded on the language discs. If you have any prior acquaintance with a Romance language (even Latin) the grammatical structure should not be too alien, and audio exercises will get you used to hearing it and responding to it.
I think it is funny that the job you have been offered is associated with the Marie Curie Institute, since you were reading about the life and times of Marie Curie when you were just in 2nd grade. Interesting how life connects sometime. Love you Mom
lol--I must admit that one of the things which prompted me to send that initial letter, despite not having the experimental back ground they said they were hoping for, was the name Marie Curie in the ad. I re-read that book so many times as a kid that all of the pages have been taped back together!
