slow internet woes

I will be so happy when we get the internet working properly here. We've just moved into the home of
clovis_t's parents. The house is lovely, the six acres of land are lush, green, and pretty. The cliff behind the house makes up for leaving the mountain side. However, the current internet connection here at the house is a rather slow satellite connection. I'm told that it is faster than dial-up, but I'm not really convinced. In addition to that, there is a problem with their network, so that they can't add new computers to it because they don't know the passwords. This means that if I wish to get on line I need to carry my computer to the office, unplug their computer and plug in mine. Needless to say, I try not to do this often, as they might wish to use there computer. However, in theory, as of tomorrow we will have our internet connection installed here. Apparently even though it wasn't possible to get ADSL out here several years ago (when they went with the satellite connection), it is now, and arrangements have been made to transfer our account from our old address to this one. I am really looking forward to this, and slightly worried that they will decide at the last moment that it isn't possible after all (even though they've already charged our account for the transfer). Having done a bit of uni work today (yay, uni work!) I've realized just how often I *need* internet in the line of research. There are papers I wish to download...
