more sewing than uni work

I mentioned last post that I was in the middle of altering a pair of trousers to fit better. I finished them on Tuesday morning, and wore them all day. In addition to taking in the waist, and adding a diamond crotch gore, I also extended the front pockets, so now, instead of just barely fitting my hands in, and needing my elbows bent and sticking far out from the body if I want my hands in my pockets, I can reach into the pockets so far that my arms are not only straight, but I actually have to drop my shoulders a little to reach the very bottom of the pockets. This is much better!
And the trousers are super comfortable. Loose in the legs (so I could actually fill the pockets, if I wanted to), but perfect in the waist. The only problem was that the original zipper was so short that after taking in the waist the fully unzipped trousers just barely opened enough to slide, ever so carefully, over my hips and bottom. So on yesterday I replaced the zipper with a longer one. I had removed about 12 to 15 cm from the waistband, so I used that extra fabric to extend the fabric flaps behind the zipper, which worked beautifully, as now I can easily slide the trousers on and off, without worrying about damaging them in the process.
Most of that sewing was done while hanging out in the Drachenwald Sewing afternoon, which was lovely, but didn't get me much progres on my thesis. Oops.
Especially as in the early evening I decided that it was finally time to make the book-girdle phone case I have been thinking of doing for ages. Months ago, when my last phone case was in the process of dying I removed the plastic inner bit, thinking that it could be used to attach the phone into a book-girdle. Since then I have seen it on my desk, and, at one point, it was on the shelf in the living room by the couch. Because I have had this project in mind for a long time anyway, when I saw months ago an announcement for a "hidden device" contest at 30 year, and a request for an email if you are interested in participating, so I sent an email.
On Monday they sent a follow-up message to all of us who had said we were thinking of entering, to see if we actually are. I started looking for that old plastic phone shell. Nowhere to be found. I checked again on Tuesday, still not anywhere I can find it, did the cats do something with it?
Wednesday early evening I looked at my current phone case, noticed that the outer case is no longer well attached to the inner phone-holding shell. Decided that it needs replacing any, and ripped off the outer shell, then got some leather from a coat that once belonged to the previous owner of the house, some cardboard from the recycle cupboard, and some craftsmans cement and set to work.
I managed to finish it that night! Crawled into bed, after cleaning up the mess and leaving the case to sit under the running over-stove fan, because craftsman cement doesn't smell nice. Photos available on FB.
