I'm not sure that DW saves drafts indefinitely (the way that your e-mail program might). My perception of how it works (based entirely on random observation) is that DW auto-saves draft(s) of an in-process post as you're composing it. If you exit the page without posting, it will keep the last auto-saved draft and offer it up to you the next time you click "post". But if you don't say "yes, restore from draft" I've never had it offer me the same draft again. It may dump it at that point. It may be that visiting DW in another tab counted as "not saying yes, restore".
