Tisdag den 25 januari har vi studerat mer fraser. Några fraser som vi studerat:

Hälsningsfraser

Hej, mitt namn är Reia.

God dag, Hur står det till?

Trevligt att råkas.

(Hi, my name is Reia. Good day, how are you? Nice to meet you.

Telefonfraser

"Det är Reia."
"Hej, Reia, det är Henrick. Har du Daved hemma?"

(This is Reia. Hi Reia, this is Henrick. Is David home?

Note: They don't answer the phone with some variant of "hello" here--some folk use just their own name, some add the verb, and others give the number you dialled)

Fråga om vägen-fraser

"Ursäkta, var ligger toaletten?"
"Rakt fram och till vänster uppför trappan."

"Ursäkta, men hur kommer man till turistbyrån?"
"Du går rakt from och sedan tar du första gatan till höger. Där på vänster sida ligger den, mittemot stationen."
"Tack."

(Excuse me, where is the toilet? Straight ahead and to the left up the stairs. Excuse me, but how do I get to the tourist bureau? You walk straight on and then you take the first street to your right. There it is to the left opposite the station. Thank you.)

And perhaps the one which will be most important to poor, hearing impaired, me:
Fraser när man inte hör eler förstår

Vad sa du?

Förlåt, jag hörde inte vad du sa.

Hursa?

(What did you say? Forgive me, but I didn't hear what you said. I beg your pardon?)

We did, of course, do many other phrases in each category, and a few other categories as well, but a representative sampling seems sufficient for these summaries.

In happy-making news of the day: As we were working in small groups of 4 discussing the answers we'd written down for the assignment of inserting the correct question word into the sentences we'd been given as I helped my classmates, yet again, by explaining why I'd chosen the question word I did, and helped them with pronouncing words one of them asked how long I've been here and how long I'd been studying Swedish. His eyes bugged out when I said I'd only arrived 2 weeks ago. He looked more understanding when I explained that I'd a Swedish boyfriend who has been teaching me Swedish one song at a time...
