My last week working at the library
Apr. 29th, 2025 02:20 pm I got an email last week from Issi, who recently finished their Honours thesis in geology at the University of Tasmania, looking at the metamorphic rocks in the Tynan area, and cited my PhD research, of course in their work. Issi looked up my publications to see what I have done since leaving Tassie, and was delighted to discover that I have been doing Viking Age archaeology research, using geochemistry, and reached out because they are considering a similar change of direction, and wanted some advice. So Friday morning's meeting was in the catagory of research support, it just wasn't one of our researchers. We had a good conversation, and today they sent me a copy of their thesis. I was delighted to page through and see photos of garnets that I either recognise, or they thave a similar growth history to the ones I remember. They even re-used one of my figures (correctly cited), showing the ages and locations of the various metamorphic rocks.
I went to the office on Monday as the research data group wanted one last fika together before Carolin and I start our new jobs. I also had an exit interview with my boss, and handed over my work computer. I already have my new work computer, and all of my files are in OneDrive, so I don't really need two computers for these ladt couple of days.
I worked from home this morning, and then caught the bus north towards Luleå. After the first 1.5 hours my battery was looking quite low, and the outlet on the bus isn't working, so I switched to sewing, and, now, typing on my phone.
In another half an hour I will be there, and go spen som time with Eva and Göran before tonight's folk dance performance for Dansensdag. I am really looking forward to dancing again!
Originally Keldor was going to come with me, and take Wednesday off of work (Thursday and Friday are holidays), but after weeks of thumb twiddling at work, they suddenly have too much to do, and he has to work tomorrow.
So, I guess I need to get my computer charged tonight, then i can work on the busride home tomorrow, and then the job will be over.
My first day on the new job is Monday!
