Hjalmar stayed with us for the week after the Norrskensbard contest, which was great. I have really missed him since he moved south. One nice extra benefit of having a third person in the house was that Wednesday, when we had all recovered from not sleeping much on the weekend, we did some seriously efficient housework--in the space of about one hour of all of us working (so a total of 3 hours of people effort) we swept, took the rugs outside and beat the dust out, mopped the floors, changed the litter in the litter box, and scrubbed the toilet, sink and shower. It is amazing how much more energy I have for housework when there are two other people also doing it, and I suspect that they felt the same. The house is much nicer to be in after that. We followed that up with a major laundry session on Saturday, getting all of the things that have been hanging on hooks to wear again, as well as everything in the laundry bags.

Work is going well, I have finally gotten to the point of having things to do over and above learning about what it is like to work at Umeå University, and sit in on line courses about research data management. the working on the bus both ways continues to work well, and I am not minding the commute at all, since I am home before 17:00 every day.

In the evenings I have been doing stuff just for fun, and saved thesis corrections effort for this weekend, and have made some good progress on them. However, it is good that there is still plenty of time before they need to be done, as it will take a while to get them all done. today I managed to break the LA-ICP-MS Methods section into two parts--the short summary of methods, in the same style as used for a published paper, and the longer section, full of advice for others who want to try my approach, which got moved to Appendix F: LA-ICP-MS Technical Details and Suggestions. I have also copied all of the section headings and the list of references into checklists in Trello, and I have started the proofreading pass through, checking off each section as I complete it, and checking off each reference as I come to it in the text. So far I am just through chapter 2 (plus the above mentioned Methods section of chapter 6) and I have found a few typos, and a number of places where what I typed could have been said more clearly, so now it is, and I have even found a reference that wasn't in the list of references, but is now.

I have made progress on re-making my Steller 50th Anniversary t-shirt to suit me, and I have been nålbinding covers for the period style glass drinking glasses that just fit inside of the new pewter mugs with lids. With those for cushion between the glass and the pewter, plus the pewter to protect the glass, and the new feast gear box in which to carry the mugs, the glasses should survive travel to and from events.

Yesterday, during a pause from thesis corrections Keldor and I walked up to the store to pick up a few things, and stopped by the home of the father of the previous Norrskensbard. I had met him when he was dropping his son off at the bus station at the same time I was dropping other event people off, and we chatted a bit, and he invited me to drop by sometime, and described which house was his. So we did. It was a lovely visit. The other person present (his partner?) is the doctor that sewed Keldor's foot shut years ago after he had accidently dropped a running angle grinder on it. I wonder if the former bard's dad has once worked as a journalist, as he kept the conversation going by frequently asking questions. Frequently enough that we didn't get many return questions in to him.

Today Keldor and I kinda fought. He suggested we just use boffers and wear only helm and gambesons. However, it has been ages since I was last in armour, and I didn't remember how far we'd gotten in fixing it up, so I went ahead and put it all on. The new bits are generally feeling good, but the stuff that hasn't been upgraded yet really needs it. I learned that I have no condition, and I tend to panic and close my eyes when he starts attacking. We really need to do this more often, as it will help both problems.

This will be a busy week, ending with leaving Thursday for the very long drive (just over 1000 km; google says 12 hours of actual driving time) to Gothenburg for Drachenwald Kingdom University. We are heading south with Þórólfr, in his car, so we can take turns one person sleeping, one driving, and the third keeping the driver awake.
