A couple of days ago I had commented that, even though I hadn't ever needed to show ID at all on many of mr pre-pandemic flights to other EU countries, I ought to bring my passport on this trip to the conference and Coronation, as who knows what it is like now?
I managed to get my conference presentation done and copied onto a usb by noon on Tuesday, then looked at airline carryon bagage size rules. Sadly, the two nice wheeled carry on bags that Keldor found in his dad’s attic are a couple of cm too tall, and we decided not to risk it. My old wheeled carry-on is perfect size, but it lost a wheel last trip, and is now only useful for storage. While it may be possible to fix, the day before one flies isn't the time to try, especially if one doesn't have a wheel.
So we went with backpacks that are small enough, and packed really light. I was super tired whilst packing, but we managed to get everything togeter: garb, sewing project, back up project in case I finish his new tunic (he'd like to wear it this weekend), clothes for the conference, toiletries, socks and underwear, phone chargers.
Then we packed up the cats and did the half an hour to his dad's, where they will stay while we are gone, did my yoga, and went to bed, with an alarm set an hour before the airport opens (it oprns at 05:15, and is a 22 min from there), so we would be in plenty of time for our 06:05 flight.
Woke with the alarm, and as I was dressing Keldor asked if I had my passport. Nope. (He has no passport, and his national ID card, which is just as good in the EU just lives in his wallet). He said, we have time to get it. I said it is a half hour drive there, and another back to the airport, and I didn't need ir last time. He pointed out that ladt rime was before pandemic and before war came so close. We drove home and got it.
He had intended to drive well faster than the limit, but with the temps rising to +3 to +5 C, this wasn't always possible, and on the return to the airport we got stuck behind a huge truck, which did slower than the limit, but no safe olace to pass.
As a result we reached the airport just after they closed the plane, which hadn't yet left the gate, and were refused admission.
Sigh. Non refundable ticket. Got the booking agent to cancel and issue a refund of the taxes, and bought tickets for the next flight, which was three hours later.so I worked on the tunic at the airport till the flight, as I wasn't willing to risk missing that one, too.
So we didn't reach Gothenburg till 15:40, at which point I was too tired to even look at the conference venu, so we just went straight home with Aleydis and spent a delightful evening charring and sewing, and I made good progress on the tunic.
Then I went to bed early, and slept nine hours, did my yoga and checked in here. Now it is time to go to the conference (Keldor will go spend the day at Universium), and then we fly to Germany this evening.
