The first time I started working for Norrbotten Museum Archives for Clubs and Societies, in March of 2020, they had me archiving small projects--collections of documents that fit in two or three bags, or perhaps covered a single table. These turned out to be great warm-up projects gor the big project I didn't yet know was coming.

That first one-month job contract was extened to several months, and then new short contracts were offered, and then,in autumn of 2021 they offered me a larger short term contract to do a bugger project: Lule älvs flottningsförening (the organisation doing the river-floating transport of logs for the timber industry from the late 1800's to the late 1900's on the Lule river).

Their documents had been donated at least 20 years previously, and had been taking up five or six rows of very full, disorganised, jumbled shelf space in the "not done yet" corner of the archives, which no one had had the time or energy to deal with since.

I accepted the project, and have been working on it, first half time, and then 1/4 time ever since.

Now, as of yesterday, that project is finally done! 171 volumns of data have been entered into the database, their documents taken out of their binders, blank sheets of heavy paper seperating sections of the binders discarded, and thin cover sheets, with notes showing which archive (1396, Lule älvs flottningsförening), which series (A for meeting minutes, E for correspondence, G for financial, etc), and sub series they belong to, and the date range for that sub series), and then packed tightly into cardboard archive boxes (each box is one volume).

The final result fits on only 1.5 rows of shelves, meaning we have reduced the space required to store it by rather a lot, and I am very happy, as are all of my colleagues.

They really want to offer me another contract, but the budget simply doesn't exist at this time.

However, I don't much like the 2.5 hr commute that it became after buying my house last winter, even though I enjoy the work, so I am content that I managed to finish, with one day to spare.

Thos is being written in the middle of the night, as I woke randomly. Do my plan is to get another hour sleep, go in for my last day at work and inventoty/archive a few volumns from one of the other river's flottningsförening, enjoy the farewell fika we have planned then head to the University, record the video portion of my funding application in progress, and take the bus home afterwards.then I have half week to edit the video before the rosd tripto Crown. It is a good plan, time to sleep! Hope all us well with you.
