The election system in Sweden is quite different from the two other countries in which I have both lived and voted, and thus I assume that no two countries are doing it the same. Therefore, in case it is interesting to anyone I know, I will describe how it works here. Feel free to comment if you have any questions, corrections, or contrasting stories to share.
( cut for a very long description of both the Swedish process, and my very long day working at the local polling place )
All in all, it was a fascinating experience. Given that it was 12 hours and 49 minutes of work in one day, I don’t know if I will ever do it again, but it was certainly interesting to do once. Besides, it gives a little extra cash in my bank account for a long day’s work (though everyone got the same amount, no matter if they finished counting before midnight, or way, way after), and I now have a local job on my CV, my first since moving here in December, which may or may not prove useful later.
