lots of good stuff
Apr. 15th, 2021 06:57 pmYesterday I got an email from my thesis supervisor yesterday, saying:
"A recently announced funding call is potentially something that I could apply for in order to cover direct research costs of up to £10,000 over two years for a Swedish steatite project.
This means that I could pay for things like the costs of thin sections of modern reference steatite samples, LA-ICP-AES of a group of Swedish artefacts, lab time, and a bit of your time to do the analysis, plus travel costs to have you visit museums to sample artefacts."
This really motivates me to work, since I have a LOT of work to do to get my current paper in progress ready to publish, because it needs to be submitted before we apply for the grant.
A bit later in the day I got an email offering me a summer job at the Lofotr Viking Museum, in Lofoten, Norway, where I will be carving soapstone. Assuming that the pandemic eases enough that the border to Norway opens so that I can go, of course.
In in the early evening I went out to Hägnan, the nearby open-air museum, where eight of us from the Herrskapsdans group met to do an outdoor dance practice (eight is the current limit for gatherings in Sweden). It was a beautiful evening, and so lovely to be out there again, and to be dancing (even though we were maintaining distance).
Then after I got home I had a surprise visit from K, which was really and truly wonderful
This morning my housemate Elnaz got the wonderful news that the insurance company has finally agreed to pay her outstanding hospital bill, so she doesn't have to worry about that looming over her head, and this afternoon she got the call from the immigration lawyer assigned to her case: Migrationsverket has given her a "Yes", she gets to stay in Sweden and doesn't have to go back to Iran!
Needless to say, we are all doing pretty good here. How are you?
