Today was a "work from home day", prompted because the electric company wanted to come into the house and change the old electric meter out for a modern one, and someone needed to let them in, so I volunteered. Of course, human nature being what it is this meant that "work" included laundry (including washing the dust off of the kitchen curtains), snow shoveling, and reading [personal profile] hrj's new short story, which I really enjoyed. (Mom, I remember you read the first book in her Alpennia series when I recommended it years ago, have you read the next two? If not, go read them, and then get the short story, too. The series starts out great and keeps getting better!)

Needless to say, I didn't get much accomplished with uni work during the day. In the evening David came over to get the server back up and running (he turned it off in preparation for the power being turned off during the the new meter installation), and I am glad he did, as it reminded me to do backups, since it has been a couple of days.

I have a couch surfer just now--the first one who has stayed with me since Caroline got her own apartment and I was thus free to change my couch surfing status from "no" to "maybe". I have had a variety of requests since then, but they seem to ask for weekends when I am out of town. But this time the timing worked out. Lisa is very nice company. She arrived last night and this morning went off to see Storforsen. I would have loved to have gone with her, since I am so fond of that place, but opted to stay home and try to work. This evening she and I went for a short walk to see if there were any northern lights out. She had seen them earlier while waiting for the bus home today, but no real luck. The clouds did clear, and we saw a tiny hint of light in the sky, but not much. She decided to stay out another half an hour, but I came back in, and, even though I was sleepy, decided to sit down to the computer and have another look at the grant application in progress. The next thing I knew nearly two hours had slipped by and I had a draft in good enough shape to send to my advisors for comment.

Yoga was done hours ago, so I should put down the computer and go get some sleep.
