a lovely day off
Jan. 28th, 2018 12:39 amThis morning I slept in till the others in the house were stirring, then played a little with Gwen till her dad was ready to take her to her Saturday morning performing arts course/workshop/whatever it is. Then I baked some naan before heading out to the big grocery store a 15-20 minute walk away, and then spent a good 45 minutes in the store before starting back to the house. It took so long in part because I didn't know where things are in this store, and in part because they didn't organize the produce area very sensibly. I wanted to make a green sauce, and thought that kale would be nice to include. When I first reached the veg area there was a shelf with small bags of baby spinach and other bags of other salad greens, so I grabbed some and continued on, picking up some fruit. Then, around the corner I found larger bags of spinach, at a better price, so I brought the first set back and picked up the larger bag. A bit further along I found even larger bags of spinach. Then I saw a bag of "shredded spring greens, and picked it up trying to figure out what plant was in the bag. The label didn't say, but there happened to be a store employee there, so I asked him, and he wasn't certain either, but when I said that I was actually hungry for kale, he showed me where it was, around yet another corner. Eventually I filled my bag and returned home.
I got there in time to put away the groceries and pack a snack (naan, cheese, almonds, and an orange) and head out the door with Aryanhwy. We took the buss up to pick up Gwen, and then another bus into town, where we joined Joel at the pub near their new house and had lunch. Then we went over and they showed me the house. They have been fixing it up since they bought it, nearly three years ago, and it is getting close to done, and looking good. I envy them the lovely six burner, two oven gas stove they bought for it.
Then we left Joel to work on the house and we girls went to a several of second hand stores, where I found a handful of shirts, and blue and white skirt, and a couple pair of flannel pajamas. I don't normally sleep in pajamas, but their house is cold enough that I will like them here. Gwen found a really cute sweater that fit her perfectly, and Aryanhwy found a cute dress that mostly fit, but was a bit loose in a way that I thought looked easy to fix, and she thought was beyond her sewing/fitting skills. So I offered to fix it for her, and she bought it.
Then we walked home and I, being hungry again, hurried straight to the kitchen where I cooked up some ( home made noodles and green sauce ) Gwen tried it and pronounced it delicious, and had a bowlful and I agreed, and ate two.
Then she took her bath while I cleaned up the kitchen and her mom started pizza dough. Then Gwen and I did 15 or 20 minutes of acroyoga while her parents got pizza topping ready and put the pizza into the oven. Then Gwen went to bed, and we three curled up on the couch, where they ate pizza and I took the sleeves off of her dress, and we watched some videos, pausing between sessions to try the dress on her, take in the sides, try the sleeves on her, take in them too, then use the strip that came off the sleeves to add a gore to the underarms of the dress, so that she will be able to lift her arms to write on the board while she is teaching. I had time to get the sleeves and gores basted into place and she tried the dress on to confirm that the fit is good. Then it was after 23:00, so she went to get ready for bed, I put away my left overs and tidied up the kitchen, and, after finishing up some stuff on his computer he went up to bed too. I was wise enough to do my yoga before picking up the computer, but now I am cold, so I think I will go take a hot shower and then try out my new pajamas.
