I never expected such a low number
Dec. 7th, 2015 09:23 pmYesterday, after my morning workout, but before breakfast, the scale said I weigh only 52.8 kg. Google tells me that equates to 116.4 lbs, which number sounds impossibly low to the me I was for most of my adult life, when I tended to bounce between 150 and 160 lbs (68 to 72 kg). Never mind that I have been between 55 and 56 kg (121 to 124 lbs) ever since about half way through my PhD (so perhaps nine years now). I thought that I was just going to stay in that range from here on out. Yet some combination of falling in love and adding that phone app workout to my days seems to have switched me over to a new setting, and I am enjoying it. There is something delightful about seeing definition in my tummy muscles, and being able to do pushups.
But my jeans, which I had taken in to an exact fit at the waist when I bought them (second hand) a year or two ago, have gotten too big, so I stopped by a second hand store with Oscar today and delgated him to look through the racks for jeans to try on. The first pair was too big, the second too small, the third was possible to (just) fasten over my waist, but neither climbing nor yoga would have been possible in them. The fourth pair was just right, and I can easily lift my leg heigher than waist height whilst wearing them. So now I have jeans that fit, and, for the first time in I don't remember when, I don't need to take them in at the small of my back.
Since I am getting fitter on my own I have decided to take it to the next level. I will be having an initial consultation with a personal trainer tomorrow at lunch time. Goals: 1) find any remaining little muscles which are under developed with respect to their neighbours and strengthen them so I don't need to see a physical therapist again. 2) increase my overall strength, balance, and flexibility such thatI learn to do hand stands (I can already do head-stands, how much harder can they be?) and chin ups 3) very long term: get to the point where I can grab a pole and lift my body out parallel to the ground.
In other news, my armour, which was made when I weighed 155 lbs, fits Oscar, though the gambeson is a bit tight across his shoulders. Now if we can just get the local fighters to start practicing again...
