The technician has finished putting together the laser and doing the necessary adjustments and calibrations. He also showed us how to drive the basic controls and what we will need to do to start it back up again if it sits idle for a week or so.

Next week the guy who does the training comes to show us how to get it properly working with the ICP-MS and convert the raw data into usable numbers.

My job, which has been only "do tasks tp get the lab ready to go", is about to change into "be the mad scientist who gets to shoot rocks with a laser". I think it will be fun.

Oh--and it snowed today! Only during the middle segment of my trike ride home, and none of it stuck, but the big beautiful flakes were lovely nonetheless.

I recently set aside my "no fiction in English" rule (which is intended to improve my Swedish by reading in that language) to read Daughter of Mystery, which was written by [livejournal.com profile] hrj.
Expandbook review! I tried not to include spoilers, but only you can say if I succeded on that point. )
If you want to read a well-written and complex story in a historic setting that includes unexpectedly inheriting a fortune (one of my favorite themes, ever!) and lots of fun to read, go get a copy of this book.
