tiny steps will eventually get me there
Sep. 28th, 2011 10:20 pmToday's progress on the uni front include going through the edits to the text of the paper my adviser gave me and accepting those that were fine as is, and replacing some others with yet other edits that are consistent with his suggested meaning, but, to my eye, more eloquent. The next step will be to look at the answers he gave me to the questions I asked about how many of the topics which were discussed in the thesis actually belong in this paper.
In addition to that I have also determined that it really isn't worth trying to fly to Tromsø from here--there are no direct flights, so instead one would need to fly from here to Stockholm and then to either Oslo or Trondheim, and then on to Tromsø. The flights I could find do those segments in 7 to 26 hours (depending on amount of time on the ground at any particular stop) and cost at least 4,500SEK (around 450€). So I asked a friend of mine who is a graduate student if he cared to do a road trip and head north for a week, and he likes the idea, so I will probably be driving (it is about 10 hours driving time from here), though I should look into the options of the train/bus combo (trains don't go all the way to Tromsø, but they do reach Narvik, which isn't that far south of Tromsø) because it is good to research all the options. I have a bit of time to work it out--the class starts on 10 October, so I need to head north not this coming weekend, but the next one.
Other progress includes accomplishing four loads of laundry, including the bedding, so I am looking forward to sleep, I love the smell of freshly washed sheets!
Before I forget to record it, I made a yummy dinner yesterday which was also really good for lunch today. I took one small butternut squash, peeled it (and cleaned out the seeds to roast as a snack), chopped it, and tossed it into a pot with four peeled carrots and enough water to cover. I let them simmer together for long enough to become very tender, and then used the immersion blender on them. I then mixed up a batch of home-made egg noodles (mix egg(s) with enough flour to make a stiff dough +/- salt and/or spices to taste), rolled out the dough and cut lozenges. I returned the soup to a boil, added the noodles, some butter, and a few spices (coriander leaves, powdered garlic and onion, pepper). The result was a nice thick golden sauce on the noodles. I have previously used such soup to cook risito, but this was the first time I have paired it with noodles.
Now I think I should go do a bit more yoga, since tonight's session was a bit shorter than usual, and then head to bed.
