so not productive enough
Aug. 5th, 2009 10:51 pmEveryone else on my research team is away on holiday. I'm not, but I'm not working much, either. Three hours one day, four another, 40 minutes today. I feel like I should be working--I need to be ready to do experiments in September, which means that I should be doing more reading and improve my understanding of what I'll be doing, and why. I've got papers to finish from my PhD research. I've got a poster to complete for an upcoming conference. This is all interesting stuff, and I enjoy doing it. But I've been letting myself get distracted.
This morning
clovis_t and I went back into the city center to see the "castle" again--we were told this weekend that we missed much of the museum last time we were there, and our source was correct--we found many more rooms with lots of things on display, and confirmed, yet again, that I really do think that art from the early middle ages, up to about 12th Century, is prettier than the stuff which comes later. Every time an artefact made me go "ooo, pretty" the card next to it had a date between the 6th and 12th centuries (I didn't see anything earlier than that today). Alas, there is *far* more stuff from the 15th to the 19th century in this museum than there is 12th Century and earlier.
After that we went home, I had some food and a nap, and managed a hint of work before coming in to uni to check mail and do work. Five hours later and the only uni work I've done is reply to one letter from the first author of a paper I'm helping with. And this time I can't even blame LJ, FaceBook, and e-mail. The biggest distraction today turns out to be the couch surfing web page. I spent far,far too long answering the questions to build a profile there. Succinct does not appear to be one of the character traits I'm showing the world through that web page. However, perhaps it will help me find home bases in the Alps for hiking adventures...
Tomorrow had better be a more productive day--I'd like to get as much done to tie up the lose ends of my PhD project as possible before I get the comments back from the examiners on the thesis, since they are likely to want corrections. (heck, I've found typos in the thesis while looking up things for the poster and papers--yes, I have corrected them in a new version of the document!) But if tomorrow isn't productive, perhaps Friday, when
clovis_t departs for Rome, will be more productive...
