Early this evening, after a good hour of uninterrupted uni work (and more than five hours over the course of the day, not counting travel times to and from uni, where I didn't get to meet with my advisor after all, but did get a couple of things out of the library), I pushed back the computer and commented to [livejournal.com profile] clovis_t "My eyes hurt, I need a break, want to go for a walk?". Just as he was replying that he was busy at the moment, his dad came in and handed me the phone. It was my erstwhile apprentice, calling from [livejournal.com profile] baronsnorri's house to see if I could be talked into coming over and helping him make a pattern for some Mongolian leggings. His timing being that spot on, I decided it was a sign from the fates saying that I should go, so I went. The fabric he wanted to use had previously been assembled into a pair of late period baggy pantaloon things, so I first set him to work unpicking the seams whilst I went for a walk with [livejournal.com profile] baronsnorri, Then I looked at the photo of the extant garment in the journal article he had and pointed out that the article cited another one which was likely to have more detail. So [livejournal.com profile] baronsnorri got on line, found the other article (ask him if you want to know what it was, I didn't write down the title, just looked at the pictures), and converted the picture plus measurements of the erstwhile apprentice's leg into one legging cut out. By this time too much time had elapsed, so I handed him that one, and told him to make one other just like it. They will have to do the feet on their own, but he's made shoes and boots to patterns he's found on line, and the second article has a good picture of the foot pattern, so I'm sure he will be fine.

Came home, mixed up the grains, nuts, seeds, and fruit for my muesli (there is something so very comforting about having such a large container full of yummy food on the shelf!) and settled back down to the computer, where I had a letter from my sister on the mainland. She had to evacuate due to a minor fire in her area, but they got it out straight away, and it was moving away from her house before they put it out, so all is well with her. It is now after 11pm, so I need to either call it a night, or get back to uni work.

Progress the past few days has only been doing the number crunching on the final thermocalc P/T estimates for my samples, but today I started incorporating them into the text of that chapter. Hope to be done with this bit soon, I really want to write that final chapter!
