another day with not enough progress
Feb. 5th, 2009 10:56 pmI've spent the day doing some necessary checking. I heard back from the programmer of Perple_x with his assessment of what was causing the discrepancy between the type 5 and type 7 calculations, which should have given the same results. It turns out that I'd used an incorrect setting when first running the type 7 calculations. So then I had to re-do one of the ones I'd long since called "done" to see if the different setting made enough of a difference that I'd have to re-do everything. The good news is that it looks like the results are good enough--it predicts the same pressure and temperature, though it does change the amount of the minerals expected to exist at those conditions. Fortunately, the important part, the temperature/pressure, is the same, so I can keep my initial calculations, though I should probably discuss the difference some place. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get back to tasks which result in writing! Of course, I'm scheduled to use the microprobe from 11:30, whcih will interfere with some potential writing time...
