I just sent the new, drastically improved, version of Chapter Two to my advisor. It feels so good to send it off, let me tell you! It does still have some gaps in it (highlighted in garish bright colours with notes indicating what will go there once it is done), but it contains all of the new results I've obtained since he gave me back the last draft of this chapter in early October (and many thanks to him for the suggestion he made which prompted me to try one more technique, without which those results wouldn't exist!). It has been nearly two months that I've been working on this chapter this time, and it has undergone some major changes in organization as well as acquiring much new data (and therefore the deletion of many paragraphs explaining the manner in which the calculations weren't working).

Now I can turn my attention to the chapter on timing of metamorphism--the summary of all of the results I've obtained via various methods stating when these rocks grew their current minerals. Once that is done I will need to re-do the chapters on the other regions of Tasmania, revising them in the same manner as I've done for Chapter Two. However, that should be a (relatively) quick task, as I analysed far fewer samples from those regions.

Once all of that is done I will finally be able to turn my attention towards the discussion and conclusions chapter, fill in the missing bits here and there, do the final edits, and then, at long last, once both my advisor and I are happy with it, print it up, bind it and turn it in to the examiners. (Sounds so easy, doesn't it? ;-)

With much luck (that no other urgent distractions come up), and lots of hard work, it should be possible to get to that stage by January sometime. I hope. December would have been better, but with moving house in a couple of weeks, I'm not going to hold my breath. But if any of my friends were wondering why my only social life these days is on line, now you know! I can read your posts to LiveJournal during my occasional work breaks, without actually needing to coordinate my schedule to see people in person.

Oh--I almost forgot--in addition to getting that chapter ready to send off, I also applied for another job today--this one is a one-year position teaching structural geology and tectonics while the regular teacher is on sabbatical. It would be nice to land this one--such a job would be fantastic experiance to help me get a permanent position somewhere else.
