I forgot to mention in Friday's post that we did my "Annual Review", and that my advisor and the person in charge of coordinating all of the department's graduate students both think that I'm on track, and they ticked the "A" status box, which means that all is well, and they think I'm going to be done "on time". They did think that I'm more likely to submit the thesis in February than in December, but that doesn't stop me from wanting to get it far enough along to submit in December. They also point out that if I'm trying for December, it had better be early December, because if it is after the 14th I'll run into the problem of the printers taking holidays, and I won't be able to get the books printed and bound.

Saturday, in addition to spending a big chunk of the day on the job application, I also managed to do some of the edits on the thesis my advisor suggested, and I spent a few hours helping the lovely [livejournal.com profile] glass_violet cut out a new gown in the 12th century style. The dark blue linen she's using is lovely, and I want it! The dress should turn out well--she had enough fabric for the skirt to wind up pretty much full circle!

Today I woke up thinking about thesis stuff, and suddenly wondered if there is any sort of systematic difference between the predicted and measured values for the compositions of the matrix minerals (since Perplex has been good about predicting the garnet composition, but not so good at predicting the matrix minerals). So I spent today setting up a spreadsheet to compare them and pulling in the data for each sample. Now I'm tired enough that I'll leave actually looking for a pattern for another day--I've got to get up in the morning and head to uni to use the laser to analyze those zircons I separated from their rocks. This was, I think a necessary task, but it hasn't yet resulted in any new words in the thesis...

I did take a short break today to attach the final pocket on the cardigan I've been making out of a blue wool knit dress I bought. (details on the start of that project) The conversion took 99 days, but it is finally done! (It is amazing how much longer such projects take when one hasn't the time to work on them most days.)
