Today, as so many of them seem to do, just slipped by! I managed to finish gathering the various figures for chapter three into a PowerPoint document (well, save for those which are too large for the computer to paste there--those are now their very own pdf files), and started doing the same for chapter two. I also managed to get in two walks and did the vacuuming, and baked some yummy veggie-filled bread rolls for food for today, and to take with me tomorrow. In the morning I'm heading in to Uni, and then I will come back up the mountain to spend the day assisting undergraduates with their field mapping. Should be fun. I rather like the Australian method of hiring "demonstrators" for classes on a short-term basis, rather than for the entire semester (well, some classes are whole-semester commitments, but some are for just a portion of the class). It means that those of us who are too busy to commit to a whole semester can still get some time working with students. In theory, I'll have enough energy left after the day in the field to continue with the collection of figures so that it is ready to give to my advisor (along with the thesis draft in progress) on Wednesday, so that he's got something to read when he's out of town the following week.
Not a bad list of accomplishments for a day which started with waking up at 06:00 with a headache. I don't get them often (but had felt not quite "right" when I went to sleep last night), so when I woke up with a headache I wasn't prepared to put up with it. Up I got, made some camomile tea, had a hot shower, and took a panadol (the common Australian non-aspirin pain reliever) and went back to bed. I debated about the panadol--I do *not* like to take drugs of any kind, and the tea and shower might have been enough to relax me past the headache. However, I knew that if they didn't help I wouldn't wish to get back up again later, so I decided to err on the side of meddling this time. (Of course, if
josiestraka hadn't left some here when she visited nearly two years ago, it wouldn't have been an issue, as there would have been none in the house. I think that this was only the third of them used since her visit!) When I woke up again at 09:00 I felt fine, though I did skip my morning sit-ups to be certain that the movement couldn't cause the headache to come back.
