Serendipity
Feb. 10th, 2008 08:39 amDecided to head out for a walk today, but rather than taking one of the *many* trails that start down at my elevation on the mountain, we decided to drive up higher and do one with a view. As we were nearing the final hair-pin turn before the long approach to the summit, we spotted a likely pull-out in which to park, and stopped the car. No sooner than we got out of the car we were hailed by our friends, David & Cathy and their young friend Natascha, who had arrive a bit before us and were attempting to find the entrance to the Panorama Track. Snorri and I had walked *down* the Panorama Track before, but never up it, so we decided to throw in our lot with them, and off we went up the hill. Had a lovely visit as we climbed, and when the trail came out on the road above we had to head all the way to the summit, Natascha not having been up there before (she's visiting from Denmark). From there we went back down the road till we were just above where Luckman's Cabin is. One can't see the cabin from the road, but we knew where it was, so we clambered down the boulder field to the hut. It is one of those cute little stone cabins with which the mountain abounds, there to provide shelter & a fireplace at need to hikers caught by a sudden change of weather. We enjoyed a picnic lunch there, before working our way back down hill to the Panorama Track & back to the car. All in all it was a delightful adventure. If we'd have been even one minute earlier or later leaving the house, we'd have missed seeing them--the meeting must have been destined to be!
