running out of time before I fly

Today I:

* Actually worked some on that paper which should have been done months ago (first time in days).
* Printed and signed all of the 43 pages (two copies each in colour, to be turned in, and one copy in black and white for my files) for my visa application (five official form, a cover letter, and a fair bit of supporting documents)
* Helped [livejournal.com profile] archinonlive finish the machine sewing for my winter coat (I do the pining and other prep work, he drives the machine)
* Washed two more loads of laundry (brings the total to five this week, this includes the nice new wool we bought at Double Wars and the various things hanging on the hooks for things that have been worn once or twice, but can probably be worn again before washing)
* Visited with [livejournal.com profile] archinonlive's father (and noted that I am able to understand far more of the conversation than last time we saw him--my Swedish is improving--still miles to go, but progress is noticeable).
* Remembered to do my morning situps, my mid-day trike ride (ok, so today's was a very short loop), and my evening yoga

Tomorrow I must:

* Go through the pile of clean clothes sitting on the suitcase and decide what actually wants to go with me to Australia
* Gather up sewing and nålbinding projects for the trip
* Bake a batch of rolls so that I can take a couple with me (and restock the freezer, since visits from his dad today and his brother yesterday meant we have pretty much ran out of the last baking)
* Get passport photos taken for my visa application
* Clean and organize the things I am leaving here so that isn't in the way for the one week to one year that I will be gone.
* Make time for enough cuddles to last me till I get back.

Thursday morning I fly, 28 hours later, if all goes well, I land in Sydney. I don't expect internet access while traveling, but it would be nice...

In other news, I was curious to see the quiz that some of you have been taking which determines which Harry Potter character's personality best matches yours. The questions all ask you to choose between two options. In all cases my answer was either "both" or "neither", so I couldn't even take it. This does not surprise me...

Good luck with it all! I gather you're only flying back to sort out your visa? Hence the one week to one year comment? Will you be staying in Sydney or elsewhere? It would be nice to actually meet up sometime :)

Yes, the reason for the trip is the visa. I land in Sydney on the evening of Friday the 1st, take the train to Canberra Saturday morning, submit visa application on Monday, then head to the Melbourne area to meet up with my mother (who normally lives in Seattle, but is visiting my step-sister just now), and then head to Tassie on the 10th to wait for the visa to be approved. While in Tassie I will meet up with my erstwhile adviser and see if we can get that paper I never finished on my PhD research completed.

It would be great to meet you if there is a chance to do so.

long flight

So we lost all bandwidth at home and I'm replying from work and just realised that you're landing tonight. As I have a hell packed weekend it seems we'll miss meeting each other. Again. Ah, one day I'll make it to northern Europe and there'll be no escaping me then!

Hope the visa application goes smoothly and your adviser is kind :)

Cheers,

Well, there is a chance of deliberately meeting up on my way back out of the country, if you want to--it will be a spur of the moment thing with regards to when, but if there is an easy plan of the sort "fly from Tassie to airport X, visit me, then head on to Melbourne or Sydney for your flight home...

[identity profile] tyghra.livejournal.com 2011-07-07 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry I haven't replied. Bit hectic lately. I also tossed your suggestion around a few times and then realised that it was probably a bit much for the both of us. From my end it's several hours drive to Canberra airport (my nearest one) and an expensive exercise on your behalf as you'd probably be flying back out via Sydney.

Thanks for the thought though :) It was an extremely lovely one. Hope everything's still proceeding smoothly.

So far things are proceeding smoothly, I am now in the hard part: "wait". Often, when I am baking things once the baking dishes are washed I bounce over to whomever is in the house and announce that "___(insert name of whatever happens to be in the oven here)___ takes too long to bake". In that vein, can I state, for the record, that "visas take too long to process"? (It has been three whole days since submitting the application, that is too long, isn't it ;-)

(OK, they wanted the application in paper, which means that the paper is being sent to Sweden for processing, so the paper may not even be there yet, depending on how often they package up a pile and ship them over.)

You are my hard-working hero. You always inspire (and shame) me into action.
