anyone any good at LJ settings?

My mother, [livejournal.com profile] darttn, has asked me a question about livejournal settings that I can't answer:

"Two questions. How do I set my page to show an 8 x 10 page, instead of having to scroll left and righ to read each line.

Second, there used to be a note on the bottom of the page to say "everything has been read" or something like that. Now there is nothing, so every message you send stays there instead of only the title showing."

I have no clue, does anyone else have any ideas that might help her?

To the first, She can either change the font size, or change her template. Some templates, which have wide graphics along the top, force the window to require side-to-side scrolling.

To the second, I don't know.

Some layouts may have wider graphics than others and on each one options to adjust may be called differently; if there's something like "The width (in pixels) of the margin for left / right side of journal (under Header)" it may be what you're looking for. At least this can adjust the extent inside which text is shown. (To find in: Customize Journal-theme -> Basic Options / Additional Options (down at the bottom on the customize page)).

For the second it needs to be noted where this is supposed to appear, on the page for notifications and personal messages or somewhere else (first one would be suiting).

Also, I have noticed that sometimes folks post large photos that make the entire "friends page" section very much too wide, and the only way I can read the posts is to go look at each persons post individually. Regarding how to reset it so it won't do that, I am uncertain, as my theme only does that rarely...

I have never seen a "everything has been read" notation here on LJ
