another weekend slipped past

This weekend was the annual Ynys Fawr Newcommer's Feast, generally held a week or three after the University "Orientation Day", when all of the uni clubs set up booths to lure in new members. For the second year running we've sold cheap feast tickets to those people who join the College of St. Gildas (also known as the University of Tasmania Medieval and Renaissance Society), and as a result we had a number of new people come out for the event. As also happens, a number of people who used to play SCA locally, but haven't been seen in quite a while also turned up, though, because I've only been here three years, I didn't realize that some people were returning until I heard it mentioned the next day. I always very much enjoy this event, it is fun to meet new people and get them dancing!

Alas, despite the fact that the event didn't start till 18:30 on Saturday, I still didn't manage to accomplish any Uni work during the day. Sunday wasn't much better, I tried getting up early, but was sleepy, so I didn't manage much more than thumb-twiddling before I went to the afternoon tournament. It wasn't until quite late in the evening before I managed to get much done in the way of uni work. I really *must* get better about taking advantage of every window of opportunity to work, if I want to finish this project on time!

In other news, after a few weeks of nice, cool autumn temperatures, we've had another couple of hot summer days. Made going down the hill for the tournament less pleasant than it might have been, but the strawberry plant in the yard, which has had a bunch of hard, lime green berries on it for weeks seems to like the warmth more than I do--some of the berries are starting to show a faint pink blush, and I am once again hopeful that they may ripen enough to eat one day!
