Seeking suggestions as to where to go next.

As of this evening, Crian and I are no longer together. I still have to complete the writing of my PhD project, but not having a local partner, I am free to go anywhere I wish, either before I finish, and cope with the extra difficulties that would entail, or after I finish, should I decide to focus on that first. However, I’ve had itchy feet for a while—I normally move roughly once every three years, and I’ve been in Tassie for four this time.

However, my scholarship having long ended, there is only so much of my share of the savings account left to play with. Possibly enough for one plane ticket somewhere, possibly enough left to ship my belongings somewhere. If I go some where before finding employment, that wouldn’t leave anything to speak of to cover living expenses at the other end. Therefore I ask: are any of my friends or family interested in a short term live-in housekeeper whilst I finish up my PhD? I can’t spare eight hours a day worth of cleaning to earn my keep, but I could manage at least one or two a day (and, honestly, couldn’t live some pace without doing at least that much!).

Once I know what offers (if any) this request nets, I can decide if I want to go that route, or try one of the other (many) options available before me. (Yes, I have thought of some, no, I'm not going to list them here.)

Feel free to pass on this note to anyone who cares about me who might be interested in such an arrangement but won’t see it here, or if you like, to someone I don’t yet know, but you truly care about, and can recommend as a person(s) worth spending some time staying with (though, in that case, please also send me a note as to who they are, and why you’d recommend them).

Are you feeling Ok about this? I'm sending you *gentle hugs* through the ether. If you're willing to move to NZ I could ask around for you. Our house is tiny (smaller than my place in L.A. and we are bursting at the seams.

Regardless of what happened, I know the timing isn't great. You seem like a survivor so I am sure you will land on your feet.

New Zealand has always been very, very high on the "I want to go there" list for me. It has additional advantages of not being too far away from Tassie, so if working long distance, there is a possibility of getting back here if needed, and the time zone is easier to coordinate for speaking with my advisor. If there happened to be somepace there in terms of a free place to live for the short term, it would be very appealing.

Granted, all options in front of my now sound appealing, so I need to make time to do a formal list of pros and cons, but have been running all day. Perhaps this evening.

Talking to my advisor about what is still to be done, if I were just working, and not dealing with any stressors in my personal life, I could, conceivably, finish in one month. He expects that if I get a flat within walking distance of uni and do odd jobs in the department I could finish in two months, but if I head to north America, where I'd have an active social life, it might take six months to get the thesis submitted.

I suspect that going to NZ and leaving my stuff here in storage, the time to completion would be closer to what I could manage if I stayed here, but would have the added bonus of an adventure! So, please, if anyone there wants a one-to-two month housekeeper, in exchange for room and board, get them in touch with me. I don't eat much.
